I "Pic'd" again ah uh ah ah, oh yes, I "pic'd" again ah uh ah...(Sung to Phil Collins' "I missed again")

(Sorry about the title...it's an eighties thing)

We're still tryin' to get ready for the weekend and it looks like we're not going to get done what we wanted so we will just throw ourselves on our families mercy and hope for the best. I hurt my back pretty bad this last Saturday. It is a lot better but remains a dull ache in my lower back. It's one of those "bone" pains as opposed to muscle. It hasn't helped my productivity around here one bit. Your prayers are appreciated. Not just for me either but for all the family and families that are gathering around for the next couple of weeks. We have been playing the part of the woman with the Judge and making our requests every day.
We were working in the back yard today. The weather was just what I pray we will have for the next 3 weeks. A little rain in the morning, a cool midday and a sunny afternoon. We were getting pretty wore out by the end of the day so the whole family took a "play break".
We let Sam out of his kennel while Jacob brought out his Golf clubs to the freshly mowed lawn. The idea was that Jacob and Jessalyn would hit a tennis ball with his clubs to give them the practice (Jacob plays in tournaments with school) and give Sam a little fun too.
While they were doing that Deanna and I made some more preparations to the camper my Mom and Dad sleep in when they visit. That seemed to set off some kind of trigger in one of our cats.
Gidget is her name but we call her "Pete's" It's short for "Stinky Pete" because when we got her...uh...She had this..um..Stomach problem that we have since taken care of, but the name has stuck. Anyway, she is usually not that sociable...Until my mom arrives that is. Pete's saw us messing with the trailer and came right over to check and see if anyone was home.
You see, Pete's and Mom have an appointment for a "pet session" set for every morning Mom is here. Evidently and judging from the cats attitude, when she saw mom was indeed not here yet, she thinks Mom is late!
Hope you enjoy the pics!
Will

Are they here yet?!?

guess I'll wait...

a boy and his caddy...

well? you gonna hit that ball or what?

standing in front of the golfer is probably not the best idea he's ever had...

Now you're supposed to give the ball back!

Company is coming!!!!!

The Oakes Family Gathering is almost here. I really look forward to this time and seeing all of our extended family and friends. I have been working on a power point presentation of some of the genealogy stuff that I have discovered and also adding pictures to it of our ancestors. Not anything too deep. I didn't want to put everyone asleep. It's a fine line between being interesting or boring. What is exciting to me in finding our history would probably bore others to tears. I'm trying to get it right though.
Yesterday was Father's Day. Will of course had to work, but did get off early. I even cooked him supper. He had been giving me a hard time about not making REAL mashed potatoes in a long time. Just to be smart, I almost gave him a plate full of just mashed potatoes for his Father's Day supper. It would have served him right. I decided to be nice and feed him well.
Today is lawn mowing day. Will just put new blades on the mower. I am going to work with Jacob and Jessalyn while he cuts the grass. We move furniture and swingsets out of his way and then I weed eat for hours and hours and hours. Actually it's not that bad, but it's a BIG yard.
They are getting ready to add 140 boxes to my mail route. I am looking forward to the increase in pay and the chance to have a bigger route. One more addition like this and I will quite possibly have a small full time route. The bosses have been having a hard time getting everything figured out, because they have never been on the routes, so I have had to sit down and help them get it worked out. A challange that I enjoy.
Cranfest is 95 days away. I have a 15 page "to do" list for it. I and my team will start working on it the Monday after The Gathering. We have it down to a science of what to do when and where. When it works right, it works well. When things don't work right.....well let's just say "We like things to work right". So much of what I and my team do is support work for others, so we have to get it done and get it done on time.
The kids start summer enrichment classes today. It goes for two weeks. I will drop them off on my way to work and then pick them up when I am done. I think it will work out well. Then they are home for a week or two and then it's off to Bible Camp. They are really looking forward to that (so am I). They get antsy around the house. Mom is such a hard taskmaster you know. I'm such a pushover and know it.
Well, time to get gone for work and school.
God bless.

Busy!

John 3:30 : He must increase, but I must decrease.

This has been the verse running through my head for the last several weeks. Decreasing right now seems like a really good idea. I don't think I have any more time or energy for "increasing". Deanna, the kids and I have been really putting in the work hours around here trying to get ready for everything we have going on this month and next. We have the "Oakes Family Gathering" starting to get "fired up". That means a lot more visitors to the house, including a bonfire in our back yard again this year. It is always so much fun to have family gathered around and the Oakes Family are all such wonderful people who truly enjoy being a family. It really is refreshing.
To make it even more fun this year my parents are also coming up and are going to be a part. Knowing my mom and dad, they are so going to fit right in. I have been eager to get them to be a part of this because I know they will. I am truly excited about that. Of course there is also all the singing. I enjoy listening and singing along and I know my parents will too, which is another reason I've been eager to get them together.
Of course all of that happening at once means so much more to get ready for. We have also been helping Dave and Dottie (Dea's Parents) finish up "the farm" which has now officially been turned over to the new owners even though we have a few more trips to make hauling materials to be stored in our new shed; which is still not finished (sigh).

He must increase, but I must decrease.

I remember when I was a kid following my parents through a crowd only to discover the people I was following weren't my parents. Lost.

Ever been following the Lords Lead only to discover you made turn somewhere you don't remember turning? Of course the Lords Leading is always correct I just wasn't paying enough attention to where He was going. I think I am back on track for now and naturally life is much better for it but there were a few weeks of "treacherous ground" trying to get back to where I belong which is following the Lords Lead and paying more attention to what He's saying.
For the moment that seems to be: He must increase, but I must decrease.
Check out the verses in that chapter.
That phrase takes on added meaning when you read the verses after it.
Well, that's all the time I have for this morning, I'm off to work!
May the Lord Bless You and Keep You and Give you Peace.
