A Truck, A Car, and a Shed to cover 'em with!

Below are a few pics of our ongoing Pole Shed project. We haven't worked on it much this week but it got this far really quickly.
Our new pickup has been very helpful and very thirsty. Especially when you consider the gas mileage I get with my ol' beat up Festiva. I used to get a lot teasing about my little "beater" of a car but now with Gas prices going nuts those same people have started asking me where they can get one like mine. I just smile and say "...the junkyard."

Now though I have a cool "beater" of a truck as well, but I think I will drive it a little nicer than I do the festiva. I really am tickled with the truck and how helpful it has been. Just how did I get along without one??

Also you will see below one of the two (!) vehicles my 13 year old son owns. It is a 1939 Dodge special deluxe that has a lot of potential. It doesn't run and boy does it need a lot of work but "it's all there" and the motor does turn over. This was given to Jacob by Deanna's Dad (Dave). This is the very same car he drove Deanna's mom (Dottie) to the hospital in when it was time for Deanna to be born. No, it's not for Sale. (Uh well, if someone was to offer ten grand I wouldn't make them wait outside while we thought about it... but otherwise...) [side note: Deanna asked me to point out that no, she wasn't born in 1939...I say "asked" but the tone of her voice suggested it wouldn't be healthy for me to turn down her request...]
I still don't have any pics of the 78 Dodge prospector that also belongs to Jacob. I don't want to risk breaking my camera. It is that ugly, at least to me it is, but Jacob has a lot of sentiment tied up in it and he loves it.

If putting up with an ugly truck will make him happy I guess I can hide it in the shed too. Am I a great dad or what? (This question is purely rhetorical. Please don't burst my bubble by truthfully answering. The truth and the facts have nothing to do with this....;-)

It has surprised some people to find out that I live where I do and yet have been without a truck for as long as I have. Finally the need became too great and we purchased this 91 Chevy from Seth. We got it just in time for the Gas prices to really sky rocket (sigh). Still Seth really kind to me as far as price is concerned and it has already paid for itself just in hauling materials for our new shed and then hauling the stuff to put in the shed even before it had walls!

You can see from this pic how the shed is at the far side of the property. ( I just now noticed that there is a number missing from my mailbox!) The verticle siding matches our house.

This is the same pic as above but touched up to show the front better. Eventually there will be garage doors and verticle siding in the front (by the opening for the window) to match the wood on the side.

This is the '39 Dodge that Dave gave to Jacob. It's first of the 3 vehicles that will occupy a stall in our new shed. The motor still turns over...If you pull it with a truck...

Dave drove Dottie to the hospital in this very same car when it was time for Deanna to be born.

New Pole Shed!

Well, I don't think a spring is allowed to go by with out us starting some kind of new construction and this one is no different. I had been planning on building a small very very basic pole shed with irregular poles with a tin roof and sides or maybe even the corrugated plastic for the sides!
I was thinking very very simple and basic.
I just wanted a place to store (hide) Daves mini motor home, Jacob's 78 Dodge pickup (needs alot of work), and Jacobs 39 Dodge sedan (also needs alot of work).

I think Dave (Deanna's Dad) might have been afraid that the pole shed I was planning would cave in on top of it all but he's too nice to say so.

Anyway, he decided that he needed even more storage space (moving from a farm to a house in town brings special challenges) so he offered to provide building material and professional construction help (by way of Seth Frost) if I would grant him the space. Of course he wasn't finished asking before I was saying "Sure!!! Yeah! You Bet! Whatever you want!" My momma didn't raise no fool named Will! (my two brothers are going to love that line!)
Needless to say the pole shed that we are constructing now is much much grander (sturdier) than what I had planned. It's going to look a whole lot nicer too!

It will have three "bays" for the three vehicles I mentioned and a fourth bay that will be enclosed as a storage area for the materials Dave currently doesn't have room for in town.
It will be built to match to our house with rough sawn vertical siding but with a tin roof instead of shingles. At the moment it will only have the dirt floor but perhaps later we will add gravel or cement. We will have to wait and see what the Lord and our Finances will allow.
I took pictures and posted them below. There a also a couple of pictures of Seth Frost and his Uncle Tim Frost. The pictures were took at sunset and in a hurry so I'm sorry they aren't very clear or good.

Your fairly basic "Pole shed". Much nicer than what I would have built on my own!

There will be a tin roof with vertical wood siding (rough cut) to match the house.

With the sun setting, it made taking pictures from the front difficult. You can see the three "bays" with the fourth that will be closed in for storage.

Tim took quite a bit of convincing to get him to be in these pics. Looks natural doesn't he? Seth on the other hand, was very willing to give his fiance' in Austrailia a reminder of what he looks like.

My spring has sprung

One of the carriers that I used to substitute for has been injured for almost 3 weeks. His new sub has been on the route for almost 4 months. She still has a hard time finishing the route by herself on time. I have been doing half of the other route plus my own for many of the days. Add in the sick family and other work on the side and I am old, beat up, and wore away. BUT spring is here!
My tulips are blooming, dwarf iris patch too. I just love spring. The frogs are singing and every once in a while I make Will go outside with me and listen to the frogs at night. I'm sure it doesn't thrill him like it does me, but he is a good husband and puts up with me.
My parents are helping us build a large garage/pole building on the southern end of our property. We need it for cars and storage. It's exciting to see it go up. I will be glad to have that done and the farm finished so that we can all get working on the garden and other summer things.
The kids are back to school after a week's break. They are not happy about it, but I sure am. They get antsy here around the house.
The dog is great. I just wish that I could keep him out of the kitty litter. Yuck! He is very sneaky about it. I call it his "stealth mode". When you wonder "where's Sam" you can usually find him there. I don't know who gets more worn out, him or the kids.

Strep Throat for Everyone!

Well it's official. The whole family has strep throat. I shudder to think what the medical bills for this week will be when this is all said and done. I am on 3 prescriptions. Will and the kids are on two. Will had to have a film taken of his sinus passages and also of his chest. All clear......they never would admit they saw a brain though....
Anyway, the kids are thrilled. No school and tomorrow and then spring break starts. They don't know that I am picking up their homework tomorrow. That should put a damper on their high spirits.
We did go outside this afternoon and enjoy the 65 degree sun shiny weather. It was nice to just sit and bake and watch the dog and kids play. Sam, the puppy is a great addition to the family. He is a very gentle soul. He already fetches, sits, lays down and shakes for the most part on command. He is still a puppy and gets side tracked sometimes, but we love him. The kids are really enjoying him except when it comes to poopy patrol. Then of course he becomes Mom's dog.
Will and I have both been working our regular schedule through this whole mess. Will has been sick for a month, but kept getting better and then would get worse. He has really been miserable. I am hoping his meds work quickly.
Well, time to hand out meds and get everyone into bed... just wanted to give you an update on the mess around here.

Still busy (sigh) and "Blog stalking!"

Well, things are still terribly busy around here. It's 4:43 am and I have to leave for work in 20 minutes and still have a lot to do before I leave but I wanted to leave you at least a little tidbit. I know how frustrating it can be to keep returning to a blog only to find that weeks and weeks (sometimes months and months) go by but still no new postings. So here is my little tidbit: "Blog stalker" or "blog stalking". It is a new (to me) term for those people who regularly visit a blog but rarely if at all leave a comment. I am not accusing anyone, quite the contrary, I have found the phrase a great incentive to make sure that I don't become a "dreaded blog stalker" (insert b-movie scream here).

The dog is doing great. Sam has learned to sit, shake and lay down on command. Ok, sometimes it takes several commands. He usually comes when he's called and with a stern "Mine" he will drop whatever he has in his mouth. He actually plays fetch pretty well. Unfortunately we use the "Mine" command more than anything else at the moment as he keeps chewing on everything that is not a dog toy.

It would appear the sickness is still ravaging our house. Please pray. It looks like I will be heading to the quacks ...uh I mean doctors office on Wednesday because this crud is still with me. I don't really want to go. I mean why spend 60 bucks for him to tell me what I already know? I'm sick! But I've had this mess for over a month now so to the quacks ... uh doctors I go.
Honestly I know what is happening. We just keep giving it to each other, before we've ever completely gotten rid of it. Thankfully I haven't had to miss any work and neither has Deanna. Which is good seeing as how we now have a doctors bill to pay....

I have a "new to me" truck. It's a 1991 Chevy Heavy duty 3/4 ton. It is only 2 wheel drive but at it's current gas mileage I don't know if I could afford a 4 wheel drive. Still, I'm pretty pumped. Seth sold it to me for a fantastic price (Thank you Seth!) and it's already proved worth the price. I have a long list of things I need to do and can accomplish now that I have a truck.

Well, I guess I need to go. It sounds like Sam (the dog) has started chewing on something else he shouldn't so I better go check.
