Dust if you must...

It has been terribly difficult lately to avoid being overwhelmed.
Last Fall I was in a rush to try to get so much accomplished before winter hit.
I didn't get it all done in time.
Most of the things I didn't finish couldn't be finished until the weather was more cooperative.
It's starting to be more cooperative.
So now that it's Spring I have all the usual that comes with it, plus everything that should have been done before winter;
and as if that wasn't enough, the projects I know I'm going to be involved with this summer are already stacking up.
I've been trying to prioritize everything and plan how to proceed.
You've heard the phrase "The List Never Ends"?
Now I know why. No one wants to finish the list!
You work on making the list for ten minutes and realize you could be here all day just making the list!
If you think about that for too long, then depression knocks on the door singing "Yoo Hoo! Can I come in??"
At the same time I can hear my alien chair trying to tell me "if you can't get it all done then why even start?? Come, sit down, put the television remote in your hand and you will feel all better.."
The evil part is the truth in that statement.
If you look at the whole picture it just sucks the strength and air right out of you.
Truthfully, what would be nicer than a morning enjoying the comfort of an easy chair and the entertainment of the television?
and then maybe the afternoon, Of course the shows are best at night...

So I keep telling myself : accomplishment.
That is what would be nicer.
The reason I have so much to do is because I Want It Done.
I realize you can't always have what you want but the point is I can't blame anyone else either.
I can't say " If it wasn't for (whoever) I wouldn't have to do this!" or "If (whoever) wants it done then THEY can do it!"
Nope.
Nobody's fault but my own.
Ya know I really, really have to work on "wanting" less.
I really have learned to appreciate the phrase:
"Simplify, Simplify, Simplify!"

I've heard people tell me that I'm simple.
So why can't it all be more simple?

In that vein (or is it vain?) I offer a very old poem that I have been considering a lot lately.
If you come to my house you will recognize that I don't put a high priority on neatness; but hey, if that's what "floats your boat" than go ahead, Dust if you Must.
Will.

Dust if you must

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture or write a letter,
Bake a cake or plant a seed.
Ponder the difference between want and need.

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim and mountains to climb,
Music to hear and books to read,
Friends to cherish and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, the wind in your hair,
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain.
This day will not come around again.

Dust if you must, but bear in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go and go you must,
You, yourself, will make more dust.

Remember, a house becomes a home when you can write
"I love you"
on the furniture....

You could help Deanna make some, "I Love You Cakes". I don't know what they are, because I just made them up, but it could save the furniture
